Christchurch City Council Funding

The Discretionary Response Fund is run by the local Community Board and provides funding and sponsorship for local people and projects. For more information, contact the RRA or visit this web page.
Discretionary Response Fund - To assist community groups where their project funding request falls outside other Council funding criteria and/or closing dates. This fund is also for emergency or unforeseen situations. Applications are open until the funding pool is exhausted. 
Light Bulb Moments Fund - Apply for a grant of up to $500, get your community project off the ground and bring some light to your community! Applications are open until the funding pool is exhausted.
Youth Development Fund - Each year the Council's community boards set aside an amount of money to fund young people in their local community. CERA Funding

Rotary has been asked by CERA to help strengthen communities and they have a web site at www.rotaryneighbourhood.org.nz. They have been established to support locally initiated projects that contribute towards improving wellbeing and building resilient communities and neighbourhoods. Applicants to the fund can apply for up to $500 for small neighbourhood events and up to $4,000 for larger community events.

Tsunami warning sirens

These are present around the coastline and would be activated in the event of a distant tsunami warning being issued. There would not be time to activate them for a locally generated tsunami so if a severe earthquake is experienced you are advised to make your way immediately to higher ground. Tested twice a year at 11am on the Sunday after the clocks change.

Tides at Redcliffs

Tides at Sumner and Redcliffs are later than Lyttelton.
For current tide tables click here.
Tides at Ferrymead Bridge are around one hour after Lyttelton.

Walking tracks

There are numerous walking tracks in the area, on the Port Hills and along the estuary edge and seafront. Good starting points are Barnett Park in Redcliffs, Sumnervale in Sumner,  John Britten Reserve in Mt Pleasant and Taylors Mistake. Maps are available from the City Council.

The Christchurch 360 walking trail passes through Redcliffs, following the estuary edge along the route of the Christchurch Coastal Pathway.

Weather

Redcliffs weather tends to be more temperate than central Christchurch due to the proximity of the sea. It is cooler in the heat, and warmer when cold; ground frosts are unusual and snow at sea level is not seen in every winter.  On sunny days a north-easterly sea breeze tends to develop in the afternoon, but will often drop at sunset leaving a calm evening.
